YOUR QUESTIONS

Answered

At DSA Tax and Bookkeeping, we understand that managing your finances comes with a lot of questions. Whether you're a small business owner, an independent contractor, or looking for personal tax support, our goal is to make the process as clear and straightforward as possible.

Below, you'll find answers to some of the most common questions we receive. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, feel free to contact our team — we’re always here to help.

What services does DSA Tax & Bookkeeping provide?

We offer personalized tax preparation, monthly bookkeeping, business formation assistance, and accounting support specifically tailored for independent distributors and small business owners.

How do I get started with DSA?

To get started with DSA Tax & Bookkeeping, your business must first be officially formed. If you haven’t done that yet, fill out our Business Formation Application to complete this essential first step.

Once your business is formed, you can apply for DSA’s tax and bookkeeping services using our DSA T&B Application. If you have any questions along the way, our team is here to help.

How often will I receive financial reports?

Your dedicated DSA accountant will send you monthly financial statements so you can stay on top of your income, expenses, and tax obligations.

Do you offer support with quarterly estimated taxes?

Absolutely. We calculate and help you plan for your quarterly tax payments, so you’re not hit with surprises at year-end.

What is an EIN?

EIN stands for “Employer Identification Number," which identifies your corporation exactly like your Social Security Number identifies you. If you are considering incorporation, please call DSA to let us help you get your very own EIN.

Every corporation must have an EIN:

  • to file your corporation taxes

  • to open bank accounts

  • to borrow money

  • to pay yourself a salary

  • to receive payments of monies due your corporation

How do I pay myself a salary as a business owner?

As President, Sole Owner, and Officer of your company, the IRS requires you pay yourself a reasonable salary. Your Accountant will discuss your salary with you and prepare all necessary Federal and State forms for withholding and unemployment. Included with your payroll will be instructions on payments and agency addresses.

Can DSA file both my personal and business tax returns?

Yes. We prepare and file both Federal and State tax returns for your business and personal finances to ensure everything is coordinated and compliant.

How do I submit my monthly report to DSA?

Clients are required to submit a Monthly Report summarizing their income and expenses. This can be done by logging into your account on dsatax.com, where you can complete and submit the report online.

Alternatively, reports can be sent via mail, fax, or email. Timely submission ensures accurate financial tracking and compliance with tax obligations.

What if my previous accountant filed the wrong forms?

We often work with new clients who need to correct past filings. Our team specializes in identifying and fixing issues related to independent business structures and route ownership.

Can DSA help me form a corporation or LLC?

Yes, DSA provides full business formation services. We guide you through choosing the appropriate business structure, prepare necessary documents, obtain your Employer Identification Number (EIN), and handle state filings. Our goal is to help you save on taxes and protect your personal assets.

What if I use a part time helper?

You should always have a signed contract between you and your part-time helper. This will help make it clear that they are a part-time helper (independent contractor) and not an employee. Always keep a copy of your signed contract for your records. Pay your contractor by check and obtain their address and Social Security Number. At year-end you will have to issue this contractor a 1099 if paid more than $600/year. Learn more here.

How do I stay compliant?

Your Accountant will help guarantee compliance by making sure you are filing the proper tax filings and annual reports to keep your business in good standing.  It is always good measure to send any notice you receive to your Accountant to avoid scams!
